Mark Gilliland is the founder of Cherrybomb – one of the most unique club outfits to grace the Belfast scene. Honing his encyclopedic knowledge of music as one half of the partnership behind cult Music Exchange Backbeat Records, Mark has had a monopoly on some of the rarest real vinyl diamonds to slip through the city of Belfast.
The result is a peerless collection of underground sounds, from the darkest recesses of disco to 50’s rockabilly stompers interspersed with a dash of Dead Kennedy’s and booted up with a shot of The Shangri-la’s.

A flagrant disregard for sticking to the rules is the reason why his genre busting sets stick out from the in crowd. Mark’s DJ appearances usually feature as the soundtrack to some of the most memorable nights in Belfast. The Cherrybomb sound has ripped through dancefloors in venues such as The Lifeboat, The Garrick, the Pavilion & the Menagerie as well as tearing up the rule book at high street fashion shows and Hollywood wrap parties. Mark can usually be found manning the decks at many of Hydroponic Music’s more off kilter musical presentations – between tracks he likes nothing more drinking red wine from the neck of the bottle, embracing his cohorts with a two fingered salute and grabbing a quick snooze before launching the next audio assault on an unsuspecting public. The work of the Anti DJ in glorious sonic Technicolor. | |
